With the 2012 Games coming to a close the excitement continues to roll! We are very excited to announce the newest athlete to join the Rx Team, Karissa Rempel. There are athletes with a lot of potential, and then there is Karissa. She is in a class of her own. At 15 years old she is poised to absolutely tear up the competitive #CrossFit scene for years to come. At this year’s Canada West Regionals Karissa finished 13th; moving up from 31st in the Open. With incredible support from her parents Dave and Nicky Rempel, remarkable athletic ability and a determined attitude, Karissa is going to do some amazing things. Here is a little bit more about Karissa:

I was a competitive gymnast for 6 years and had been involved in gymnastics since I was 3. In January 2011 I pulled my hamstring and rather than healing, it continued to get worse each day. So in March I decided to take a month off and just let it heal.

While this was going on, my Dad had just started CrossFit and had decided to participate in the Open just for fun. None of us knew much about CrossFit at the time. My dad suggested that I join him and thought that it would be perfect since I could modify the workouts to accommodate my injury.

A month later my hamstring had healed and I was ready to go back to gymnastics. My gymnastics training required 20+ hours a week which wasn’t going to leave me with any time for CrossFit. After 2 weeks back at gymnastics I decided CrossFit was what I wanted to be doing. I talked to my parents about making the switch and they were very supportive… I started back at the CrossFit gym right away.

Gymnastics has given me a big advantage in CrossFit. It taught me a lot about discipline and many of the skills are quite similar. I have been doing CrossFit for 15 months now; First training about 4 hours a week and soon progressing to about 8 hours a week. In November 2011 I participated in a local throw-down at a box in our community and won 1st place! Next was the open where I finished 31st in Western Canada followed by the Regionals where I improved to 13th. Recently I started working with CJ Martin of @CFInvictus who has come along side my trainers at @VO2MaxGP, helping to develop programming specific to the goals I want to achieve. All of the trainers at my box, including Brett Shillington and Janine Walinski are amazing! They are great at encouraging and helping me with this new program. I really enjoy having a program tailor made for me and working with the trainers who started me off on my CrossFit journey.

I haven’t done any competing since the Canada West Regionals because of school and it was nice to take it easy after Regionals. I definitely plan on going to throw-downs around my area this summer and love going to new boxes and meeting new people. I plan on taking most of my schooling at home next year for grade 10 so that I can really concentrate on training. My school has been very accommodating, helping me to achieve success in both sports and education.

Welcome to the team Karissa! We’re excited to be a part of what we know will be an epic journey in CrossFit. With such a great team around you to support you we know you’re going to be a force to be reckoned with!

It came and went so fast that we’re left to wonder WHAT JUST HAPPENED?! The 2012 CrossFit Games were absolutely incredible and put together on a scale that was jaw dropping. This was our first year at the Games but everyone who has attended in previous years couldn’t help but comment on how much the event continues to build and grow each year. Congratulations to all the athletes who put forth an incredible effort and inspired all of us to step up our own training. We want to give a huge shout out to @Blonyx and Rowan Minnion for providing a new and growing company like ours an opportunity to be there to showcase our product. Rowan was so impressed with our men’s and women’s Rx Shorts that he bought the rest of our inventory to co-brand with his company for the Games. We are incredibly appreciative of clients like Rowan who have expressed confidence in our product and are excited about the future of Blonyx within the CrossFit community.

Each day at of the Games brought more and more interest in our shorts. Jay had spent his voice completely by the end of the second day as he wouldn’t let ANYONE pass by without asking them if he could tell them about our shorts. In a market where more and more companies are starting to offer shorts, we were determined to get people to stop to let them know why our shorts are different. Each day build upon itself as we spoke to more and more people. Friday was a lot of sharing the product and its features while people walked through to visit all the vendors… by the end of the day we had made a decent number of sales. Saturday started to bring some people back that we had spoken to once they had a chance to check out all the other shorts available. It is like Christmas morning for us when we have people come back and say “I checked everything out and these are the ones I want to buy!” Sunday was incredible… we had a HUGE number of people that had bought shorts throughout the first two days come back to buy a second pair before the Games were over. I can’t think of a bigger compliment than that!

We are so appreciative of everyone who stopped to let us share our product and those who made purchases. It was just as cool having so many of you who already support us coming by to say hi and talk up our shorts with those who were nearby. It’s a bit overwhelming for us when we step back and look at the support we’ve received over the last year from so many of you. We can’t thank all of you enough and will continue to be proactive in our attempt to provide you with the best CrossFit shorts possible. Our goal is to make it clear that we care about people first; and then the right kind of success will follow!

So many people are always saying how the best part of CrossFit is the community and we were so pleased to meet so many new CrossFitters this weekend. Many of the people we met are box owners and we are excited to being the process of Custom Branding our shorts to promote your box. We’re excited to use our product to help you grow your business and have even greater success.

As a relatively new company we are learning a lot as we go… thanks in no small part to all of the feedback we receive from you. With the most recent development of having our remaining inventory purchased for the games, we are in an interesting position right now. We current are sold right out of our shorts and have put in a new order with our manufacturer. The new order also contains a longer version of our Men’s shorts for athletes 6’2″ and taller as requested. We are going to add a sign up section to the main page of our website where those of you looking to order shorts can provide your name, email, shorts requested and size. Then, when the next order arrives we will notify you so you can place your order online and we will SHIP TO YOU FOR FREE! We obviously aren’t terribly excited about our current situation but will chalk it up as a learning experience to help us serve you better going forward. On the flip side, it’s also kind of exciting that we are dealing with an issue like this as it means we must be doing something right.

We’ll let you know as soon as the sign up is active on the website. Thanks again for all of your support and good luck with your training! We look forward to seeing many of your at events leading up to next year’s CrossFit Games.
